About Us
St. Mark's Lutheran Church by The Narrows
St. Mark’s has a history of growing commitment to justice and community partnership. Its Creation Care Alliance sent a team for training in “Community Organizing for Climate Justice as Faith Active in Love,” a course that brought us into conversation with multiple partners in Tacoma. Soon Peace Lutheran appeared on the horizon as a crucial partner for our learning and engagement. Learn more about St. Mark's here.
Peace Lutheran Church
Peace Lutheran is an historic church in a changing neighborhood. Located in the Hilltop Neighborhood of Tacoma, Peace has learned how to listen to the community, to embrace racial and economic diversity, and to work concretely for the most vulnerable. Two years ago, Peace began to explore God’s direction for the congregation’s future; one piece of that discernment is a desire to partner more fully with St. Mark’s. Our Goals
Limited, Tangible, Concrete, and Celebrate-able
As our partnership has grown, we have been seeking to take small steps together for climate justice, to choose projects that are concrete and tangible, that are limited in scope and time, and that we can celebrate together. The intent of our partnership, however, is not short-term: As each concrete project finishes and leads to the next one, our aim is to continue to grow in our partnership, our understanding, and our commitment.
Some of our dreams...
- As we listen and learn from one another, there are several issues on the horizon. We’ll be looking to see what concrete projects we might shoulder together for the future:
- Housing
- Land trust
- Community Gardens
- Food deserts
- Trees for the Hilltop
- Renewable Energy
- Light Rail: Parking
- Light Rail: Trees
- Light Rail: Fares
