A joint Peace/St.Mark’s work party on November 5th, 2022, helped to get another of Peace’s houses ready for new tenants. About 20 people from both congregations cleaned gutters, cleaned windows, cleaned the kitchen, hung blinds, installed smoke detectors, electrical face-plates, and transition strips between rooms, rebuilt the back steps, hauled away trash, etc. A new formerly-homeless family moved in shortly after.
In summer of 2023, the Shalom Project received a grant from Tacoma Public Utilities to help us start the next phase of our solar power project. In January, 2024, work will begin to install solar panels on the roof of St. Marks' Lutheran to cover half of our electrical energy needs. At the same time, we'll be outfitting a second of Peace's homes with solar. In a later phase, we'll do the second half of St. Mark's and more of Peace's houses.
